It was decided that we should change our name in line with our national body which is now known as Clubs for Young People that we become C.Y.P. Scotwest formerly known as Boys' and Girls' Clubs (Glasgow & South West Scotland). We are the largest of the five Federations that form C.Y.P.Scotland and strives to maintain the high standards required by the National Association. These include the encouragement of young people from the ages of 7 to 18 into healthy and active lifestyles, providing opportunities, which both stimulate and challenge their well being.
We are currently providing opportunities to some 68 clubs (30% of Scotland's total) and this past year have included such diverse activities such as Pentathlon, Rock & Pop, Cross Country, a course on full understanding of "Running a car" and International Football with teams from England, Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland. These all help to forge an early understanding and friendships. In addition we are proud to say that we have expanded our 5 Aside Football competition for boys. This was probably the biggest ever held in Scotland with 930 boys participating. The girls 5 Aside Tournament also had a large participation with over 300 girls taking part, again the largest ever arranged in Scotland.
Having launched our video entitled "Working With Young People" this has now been distributed to all leaders of our member clubs at recent training seminars. The leaders in turn will use it with the accompanying manuals for training of their own club leaders. This action is a follow up to the report by Lord Cullen and the resulting Police Act 2003, which has now become law.
